On-line coupling of volcanic ash and aerosols transport with global and regional meteorological models

barra2

Personal Project in NEMOH

Scope of work: Improve our understanding of the feedbacks effects of volcanic fine ash and aerosols emitted during large-magnitude eruptions on regional meteorology and global climate

Activities:
1-    Validate the off-line hypothesis currently assumed by all tephra transport models (i.e. analyze the extent of which near-source and regional meteorology is affected by dense ash clouds thereby altering
the radiative budget);
2-    Develop and maintain parallel codes in the frame of HPC (High Performing Computing) for tephra transport and deposition modeling and on-line coupling with meteorological models;
3-    Improve the source term characterization;
4-    Quantify the impact of large-magnitude events on global climate.

Scientific Background

My scientific background is within the Earth Systems Sciences where I have been researching the impact of changes in atmospheric composition and land management on terrestrial ecosystems using state-of-the-art techniques (GIS and remote sensing) and computer applications.  I hold a Bachelor degree in Environmental Sciences, a Masters Degree in Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing and a Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering.
